Summary: The study evaluated the relationship between performance, residual feed intake (RFI), and enteric methane emissions in growing Nellore cattle. It was found that more efficient animals consumed less dry matter and emitted less methane, but the emissions per unit of consumed dry matter and the percentage of gross energy lost as methane were higher for more efficient animals.

Expression of candidate genes for residual feed intake in tropically adapted Bos taurus and Bos indicus bulls under thermoneutral and heat stress environmental conditions

Summary: This study investigated the gene expression in Caracu and Nelore bulls under high environmental temperatures, finding lower expression of ATP1A1 in heat stress conditions. Breed and feed intake influenced the expression levels of NPY and LEP, while different climate conditions and residual feed intake could modify gene expression patterns. The association observed among all genes studied suggests their involvement in appetite control, and both Bos taurus and Bos indicus bulls showed similar adaptability to tropical climate conditions.
