Impact of climate change on parasite infection of an important pollinator depends on host genotypes

Summary: This study investigates the association between climate and Nosema bombi infection in buffed-tailed bumblebees and explores the role of host genotypes. The results show that climatic factors drive N. bombi infection and that this is dependent on the COI haplotypes of the host. This study highlights the importance of mitochondrial haplotypes in parasite resistance under changing climate conditions, and suggests that COI may play a role in climate change adaptations of insect pollinators.
