Fuzzy Logic Decision Support System to Predict Peaches Marketable Period at Highest Quality

Bianca Magalhaes et al.

Summary: This paper presents a decision support system (DSS) that predicts the quality evolution of fruits and vegetables, particularly peaches, and estimates the commercialization period at the highest perceived quality by consumers, thus reducing food waste. The DSS uses fuzzy logic to predict the physical-chemical parameters of peaches based on cultivar, storage time, and temperature. It concludes that temperature is the most important factor for fruit conservation and low temperatures can extend the time of selling peaches at the highest quality.

A critical review on intelligent and active packaging in the food industry: Research and development

Mahmoud Soltani Firouz et al.

Summary: The emergence of modern packaging technologies like IP and AP has enabled monitoring of food quality and extension of shelf-life, but there are challenges related to cost, marketability, consumer acceptance, safety and organoleptic quality of the food, and environmental concerns. Further research is needed to address these issues and promote the application of these technologies in the food industry.

Traceability in food supply chains: Review and SME focused analysis-Part 1

Joao Paulo Curto et al.

Summary: Traceability systems offer significant advantages in food safety, quality, and efficiency, but lack widespread adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises. Main issues with the systems include high implementation costs, poorly defined benefits, lack of compatibility, and exposure of sensitive information.

Traceability in food supply chains: SME focused traceability framework for chain-wide quality and safety-Part 2

Joao Paulo Curto et al.

Summary: It is important for traceability systems to have a common structure for information exchange in order to maintain utility and value. A non-proprietary framework has been developed to encompass the entire food supply chain while considering the needs and funding capacities of stakeholders.
