The influence of heterogeneous seafloor heat flux on the cooling patterns of Ganymede's and Titan's subsurface oceans

Filipe Terra-Nova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of a heterogeneous seafloor heat flux pattern on convection and heat transfer in the subsurface ocean of large icy worlds. The research finds correlations between intense inner boundary heat flux and intense outer boundary heat flux, and suggests the existence of polar cooling for Titan's sub-surface ocean.

Polar and mid-latitude vortices and zonal flows on Jupiter and Saturn

Moritz H. Heimpel et al.

Summary: Zonal flows consisting of equatorial super-rotation and alternating East-West jet streams exist on Jupiter and Saturn, and interacting with these flows leads to the occurrence of various vortices. High-resolution simulations show that deep convective turbulence can explain the structure of jets, but the latitude and the strength and depth of stable stratification can modify jet morphologies and affect the formation and dynamics of vortices. The observations of cloud-level flow from Juno and Cassini can be explained in terms of deep convective dynamics in the molecular envelopes of Jupiter and Saturn.

The Viscous and Ohmic Damping of the Earth's Free Core Nutation

Santiago Andres Triana et al.

Summary: The cause of the damping of the Earth's free core nutation and the free inner core nutation eigenmodes has been a debated issue. A 3D numerical model was developed to accurately describe viscous and Ohmic dissipation processes in the Earth's fluid core, showing that most energy is lost at the core-mantle interface. This study validates previous assumptions about energy dissipation.

Summary: The study reveals that the characteristics of Saturn's magnetic field are sensitive to the properties of a stably stratified helium rain-out layer and thermal perturbations at the top of the layer.
