4D Printing-Encapsulated Polycaprolactone-Thermoplastic Polyurethane with High Shape Memory Performances

Davood Rahmatabadi et al.

Summary: In this study, bilayer-encapsulated polycaprolactone-thermoplastic polyurethane shape memory composite structures were successfully 4D printed with improved shape memory effect compared to previous SMP structures. The encapsulation solved the bonding/interface challenge between printed layers and resulted in higher performance. The maximum stress recovery in 4D-printed composites remained constant over time, indicating enhanced durability compared to extrusion-based SMP structures.

3D printing of PLA-TPU with different component ratios: Fracture toughness, mechanical properties, and morphology

D. Rahmatabadi et al.

Summary: In this study, PLA-TPU compounds were prepared and their mechanical properties were comprehensively evaluated. The thermal analysis showed that the loss and storage modulus of the compounds changed with increasing PLA value. The mechanical tests revealed that raising the amount of PLA increased the strength and decreased the formability. The SEM images demonstrated that the increase in TPU content resulted in an increase in voids.

Effects of Two Melt Extrusion Based Additive Manufacturing Technologies and Common Sterilization Methods on the Properties of a Medical Grade PLGA Copolymer

Marion Gradwohl et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the processability and degradation of PLGA, revealing that DPP printing led to the greatest reduction in molecular weight, while ethylene oxide sterilization had the least impact on PLGA properties. The results suggest that FFF printing and ethylene oxide sterilization are recommended for the production of PLGA medical devices.
