Novel insights on nucleopeptide binding: A spectroscopic and in silico investigation on the interaction of a thymine-bearing tetrapeptide with a homoadenine DNA

Domenica Musumeci et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that nucleopeptides can selectively bind to nucleic acid targets, involving partial base pairing instead of full complementary base pairing. The binding interaction between a dithymine-functionalized tetra-L-serine and a homoadenine DNA was investigated through CD analysis, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and CD simulation. The results suggest that the nucleopeptide binds to DNA through a single A-T recognition, along with interactions between its backbone and the nucleic acid. This research highlights the ability of nucleopeptides to interact with nucleic acids while leaving some nucleobases available for further interactions or crosslinking in supramolecular structures.
