Role of lipoic acid in multiple sclerosis

Hongsheng Xie et al.

Summary: Lipoic acid, an endogenous antioxidant, shows promising effects in protecting neurons from inflammation and immune cell damage. Experimental results indicate that lipoic acid can reduce the number of infiltrating immune cells in the central nervous system and improve clinical outcomes in patients with multiple sclerosis.

The Possible Role of Neural Cell Apoptosis in Multiple Sclerosis

Peter G. E. Kennedy et al.

Summary: The etiology of multiple sclerosis (MS) remains unclear. There is controversy regarding whether neural cell apoptosis is the key event initiating and driving the pathological cascade, and the role of inflammation-independent and cell autonomous neuronal processes in axonal damage needs further exploration.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate: A phytochemical as a promising drug candidate for the treatment of Parkinson's disease

Yumin Wang et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent updates and knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) derived from green tea extract in Parkinson's disease (PD). The review highlights the pleiotropic effects of EGCG, including anti-apoptotic, anti-oxidative stress, anti-inflammatory, modulation of dopamine production, and inhibition of alpha-synuclein aggregation, which make it a promising neuroprotective compound for the treatment of PD.
