MRI-Diagnosed Tumor Deposits and EMVI Status Have Superior Prognostic Accuracy to Current Clinical TNM Staging in Rectal Cancer

Amy C. Lord et al.

Summary: The presence of nonnodal tumor nodules (mrTDs) and lymph node metastases (mrLNMs) in rectal cancer can predict different prognostic outcomes. Patients with mrTDs and mrEMVI have poorer survival and are more likely to experience distant recurrence. Compared to traditional T and N staging, mrTDs and mrEMVI have higher prognostic accuracy and can be used to determine treatment and follow-up protocols.

MRI Radiomics Model Predicts Pathologic Complete Response of Rectal Cancer Following Chemoradiotherapy

Jaeseung Shin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated radiomics models based on T2-weighted imaging and diffusion-weighted MRI for predicting pCR after nCRT in LARC and compared their performance with visual assessment by radiologists. The results showed that the MRI-based radiomics model had better classification performance than experienced radiologists for diagnosing pathologic complete response in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

MRI-based peritumoral radiomics analysis for preoperative prediction of lymph node metastasis in early-stage cervical cancer: A multi-center study

Jiaxin Shi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical potential of intra- and peritumoral radiomics using multi-modal MRI for preoperative prediction of lymph node metastasis (LNM) and developed a nomogram. The results showed that the nomogram combining multi-regional radiomics features, MR-reported lymph node status, and tumor diameter achieved the highest predictive accuracy in the training, internal validation, and external validation cohorts.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
