Circulating inflammatory cytokines and risk of five cancers: a Mendelian randomization analysis

Emmanouil Bouras et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between cytokines and cancer development using a Mendelian randomisation approach. The results suggest that specific inflammatory biomarker pathways are associated with different types of cancer. These findings contribute to the understanding of cancer etiology, but further validation is needed.

The relationship between lipoprotein A and other lipids with prostate cancer risk: A multivariable Mendelian randomisation study

Anna G. Ioannidou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between blood lipids and prostate cancer risk, and found that genetically predicted Lp(a) concentrations were associated with an increased risk of PCa, while no significant associations were observed for other lipid concentrations.

Association of Cytokine Gene Polymorphisms with Prostate Cancer Risk from a Study in Central China

Shun Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between five cytokine gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and prostate cancer risk. The findings suggest that cytokine gene polymorphisms may not be a risk factor for prostate cancer in a central Chinese population.

Causal role of high body mass index in multiple chronic diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis of Mendelian randomization studies

Susanna C. Larsson et al.

Summary: This study summarized evidence from Mendelian randomization studies, confirming a causal relationship between excess adiposity and a variety of chronic diseases. Genetically predicted higher BMI was associated with increased risk for several chronic diseases, while higher adult BMI was associated with decreased risk for certain diseases.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Statistical meta-analysis to investigate the association between the Interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene polymorphisms and cancer risk

Md Harun-Or-Roshid et al.

Summary: Several studies have reported significant associations between certain SNPs of the IL-6 gene and various cancer risks, while others found no significant correlation. This study conducted a multi-case statistical meta-analysis to further investigate this association and confirmed that IL-6 gene SNPs are linked to increased cancer risks in humans. The results suggest that these IL-6 gene polymorphisms have potential as low-cost prognostic biomarkers for different types of cancers diagnosis and research.

Are Proinflammatory Cytokines Relevant for the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer?

Manuel M. Garrido et al.

Summary: In men with PSA levels between 2-10 ng/ml, the study found that IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-alpha are associated with PCa, with IL-6 and TNF-alpha specifically linked to high-risk PCa.

Global, regional, and national burden of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers and their attributable risk factors, 1990-2019

Hao Zi et al.

Summary: Over the past 30 years, global incidence, mortality, and DALYs for kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers have significantly increased. Bladder and prostate cancers show a decreasing trend, while kidney cancer is on the rise. Regions and countries with higher SDI have higher incidence, mortality, and DALYs rates for these cancers.

Data mining in clinical big data: the frequently used databases, steps, and methodological models

Wen-Tao Wu et al.

Summary: Many high-quality studies have emerged from public databases, but these data are often underutilized due to their dimensional heterogeneity, timeliness, and irregularity. Data mining technology has shown excellent performance in evaluating patient risks and building disease prediction models, especially in large-scale medical public databases. This article introduces main medical public databases, describes data mining steps, tasks, models, methods, and applications, aiming to help clinical researchers understand the application of data mining technology in clinical big data and produce research results beneficial to doctors and patients.
