Clinical significance and immunogenomic landscape analyses of the immune cell signature based prognostic model for patients with breast cancer

Shiyuan Wang et al.

Summary: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in the immune microenvironment of breast cancer patients can serve as important prognostic biomarkers. A risk score prognostic model was developed for risk stratification and prognosis prediction for breast cancer patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Enrichment and detection method for the prognostic value of circulating tumor cells in ovarian cancer: A meta-analysis

Chengying Huang et al.

Summary: The presence of CTCs in peripheral blood is associated with poor survival outcomes for patients, especially in the pre-therapy, surgery, and RT-PCR subgroups. Patients detected with CTCs using physical or immunological methods also show significantly worse OS compared to other enrichment methods.

Heterogeneous Manifestations of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Plasticity of Circulating Tumor Cells in Breast Cancer Patients

Summary: Significant heterogeneity of CTCs in breast cancer is observed, particularly in terms of EMT plasticity. The majority of CTC phenotypes exhibit epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity, contributing to the understanding of the metastatic process.

Hexokinase 2 discerns a novel circulating tumor cell population associated with poor prognosis in lung cancer patients

Liu Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates hexokinase-2 (HK2) as a metabolic function-associated marker for the detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The HK2(high)/CKneg CTCs exhibit metastasis and EGFR inhibitor resistance-related molecular signatures, and are selectively enriched in patients with EGFR(L858R) driver oncogene mutation. Patients with a larger number or proportion of HK2(high)/CKneg CTCs in the blood show poor therapy response and shorter progression-free survival.

Progress and application of circulating tumor cells in non-small cell lung cancer

Huizhu Qian et al.

Summary: Liquid biopsy, focusing on circulating tumor cells (CTCs), shows promise in aiding the diagnosis, prognostic assessment, and therapy of NSCLC. Traditional biopsy methods have limitations in reflecting the true condition of tumors, while liquid biopsy provides additional information for clinicians and offers a new approach for the treatment of lung cancer patients.

Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme E2 H (UBE2H) Is Linked to Poor Outcomes and Metastasis in Lung Adenocarcinoma

Meng-Chi Yen et al.

Summary: The study identified a high expression of UBE2H in metastatic malignant pleural tumors, which was associated with poor survival in patients with LUAD. Inhibiting UBE2H could suppress migration capacity of LUAD cells and reverse the epithelial-mesenchymal transition signaling pathway. Certain microRNAs targeting UBE2H may serve as potential prognostic biomarkers for survival in LUAD.

Epithelial-Mesenchymal-Transition-Like Circulating Tumor Cell-Associated White Blood Cell Clusters as a Prognostic Biomarker in HR-Positive/HER2-Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer

Xiuwen Guan et al.

Summary: This study found that the presence of EMT-like CTC-WBC clusters in metastatic breast cancer patients undergoing specific treatment was associated with poorer progression-free survival, suggesting it could be used as a parameter to predict clinical outcomes and guide personalized therapy.
