Circulating RNAs in prostate cancer patients

Vera Mugoni et al.

Summary: The identification of prostate cancer biomarkers in patients' blood and urine can significantly improve PCa diagnosis and monitoring. Using EV-RNAs as biomarkers in PCa shows great potential, but faces challenges of EV heterogeneity and complexity.

Interpreting and assessing confidence in network meta-analysis results: an introduction for clinicians

Alan Yang et al.

Summary: This article provides introductory guidance for clinicians to interpret and assess confidence in Network meta-analysis (NMA) results. NMA is a statistical method that compares the efficacy of multiple interventions by synthesizing direct and indirect evidence from a network of randomized clinical trials. The interpretation and validity of NMA results depend on the underlying statistical assumptions and the quality of the evidence used.

Effective Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer Based on mRNAs From Urinary Exosomes

Jiahua Gan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic value of candidate genes (ERG, PCA3, ARV7, PSMA, CK19, and EpCAM) in urinary exosomes. The results showed that the expression of these genes in urinary exosomes was significantly increased in patients with prostate cancer and was closely correlated with the Gleason score. Receiver operating characteristic curves demonstrated that these genes in urinary exosomes could distinguish patients with prostate cancer from healthy individuals.

QUADAS-C: A Tool for Assessing Risk of Bias in Comparative Diagnostic Accuracy Studies

Bada Yang et al.

Summary: The QUADAS-C tool was developed to assess bias in comparative diagnostic test accuracy studies by evaluating the accuracy of each test and specific criteria for test comparisons. It includes additional questions and criteria, providing researchers with a tool to identify and avoid bias risks when designing comparative diagnostic test accuracy studies.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Old men with prostate cancer have higher risk of Gleason score upgrading and pathological upstaging after initial diagnosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Xiaochuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the predictive performance of age for the risk of Gleason score change and pathologic upstaging, finding that older age was significantly associated with increased risk of upgrading. Furthermore, older men had a significantly higher risk of pathologic upstaging compared to younger men.

Summary: Early detection of prostate cancer relies on PSA levels, but it lacks the ability to distinguish between benign and clinically significant forms of the disease. New urinary and serum biomarkers have been developed, but specific guidelines on their use are currently lacking.

Tumor Microenvironment in Prostate Cancer: Toward Identification of Novel Molecular Biomarkers for Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Therapy Development

Hisham F. Bahmad et al.

Summary: Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men globally, with challenges in predicting clinical heterogeneity. Mechanisms of PCa development involve interactions not only within cancer epithelial cells but also with the tumor microenvironment. Identifying molecular biomarkers in PCa's stromal-epithelial crosstalk is crucial for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy development.

Prostate Cancer Liquid Biopsy Biomarkers' Clinical Utility in Diagnosis and Prognosis

Milena Matuszczak et al.

Summary: In prostate cancer, overdiagnosis and overtreatment are common problems. New liquid biopsy biomarker tests have been developed to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and decision-making. The current gold standard for diagnosing prostate cancer relies on digital rectal examination and elevated prostate-specific antigen levels before biopsy.

Clinical utility of current biomarkers for prostate cancer detection

Jeong Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: Although PSA testing for prostate cancer screening has limitations, it still plays an important role in reducing disease-specific mortality. Novel biomarkers have shown potential in aiding patient selection for biopsy and identifying men at risk for clinically significant prostate cancer. Further validation and research are needed to determine the clinical utility and commercial availability of these biomarkers.
