In-Sensor Computing: Materials, Devices, and Integration Technologies

Summary: Recent advances in neuromorphic computing have overcome the bottleneck of traditional computing and introduced energy-efficient and parallel interconnects through photonic circuits. These circuits enable high-speed and energy-efficient linear matrix operations when combined with reconfigurable photonic elements. Nonlinear transfer functions have been explored for implementing neurons with photonic signals. Scalability and density remain challenges for photonic neuromorphic systems, but tensor-train-decomposition methods and three-dimensional photonic integration technologies show promise in addressing these issues.

Bioinspired in-sensor visual adaptation for accurate perception

Summary: This study presents bioinspired vision sensors based on molybdenum disulfide phototransistors that mimic the adaptive behavior of human eyes. Broadband convolutional processing using band-alignment-tunable heterostructures

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate a palladium diselenide/molybdenum ditelluride van der Waals photovoltaic heterostructure that can provide simultaneous broadband image sensing and convolutional processing. The band alignment of the heterojunctions is tunable, and the devices show linear relationships between light intensity and photoconductivity, as well as between gate voltage and broadband photoresponse. Our in-sensor broadband convolutional processing improves recognition accuracy for multi-band images compared with conventional single-band-based convolutional neural networks.

In-sensor optoelectronic computing using electrostatically doped silicon

Under external strains, the responsivity of flexible photodetectors based on EA(4)Pb(3)Br(10) SCFs can be remarkably enhanced by up to 284%. These findings shed light on piezo-phototronic devices and offer a promising avenue to broaden functionalities of hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics.
