Clinical spectrum and genetic variations of LMNA-related muscular dystrophies in a large cohort of Chinese patients

Yanbin Fan et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify genetic variations and clinical features in a large cohort of Chinese patients with LMNA mutations in order to establish genotype-phenotype correlation. Eighty-four patients were identified with LMNA mutations, including 41 with L-CMD, 32 with EDMD, and 11 with LGMD1B. A correlation between mutation location and clinical phenotype was observed, with two frequent mutations identified. Preliminary data suggested potential efficacy of low-dose corticosteroid treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to genetically diagnose a cohort of 36 difficult-to-diagnose CMD and CM cases of Indian origin using whole-exome sequencing. Rare and deleterious mutations in previously reported CMD and CM-related genes were identified, and molecular dynamics studies revealed potential mechanisms of pathogenesis for certain mutations.

Guillermo Martin Avila et al.

Summary: Congenital LMNA muscular dystrophy is a rare disease caused by mutations in the LMNA gene, leading to progressive motor delay, muscle weakness, and functional impairment in patients. Over 20 mutations associated with this condition have been identified, with most cases resulting from single amino acid changes.
