Effects of simplified ethanol-wet bonding and hydrophobic coating on resin-dentin bonding properties

Xia Wang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of simplified ethanol-wet bonding (EWB) and hydrophobic coating (HC) on three adhesives. It was found that EWB for 2 minutes significantly improved the adhesion properties, while EWB 1 minute combined with HC or HC alone increased the number and length of resin tags in some adhesives, enhancing the bond strength, durability, and quality of the adhesives.

Dentin adhesives application deviations: Effects on permeability and nanoleakage

Alexandre Cavalheiro et al.

Summary: The study showed that deviations from the recommended protocol of a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive system can affect dentin permeability and nanoleakage. Aggressive drying, adding additional layers of adhesive or using oxalate can reduce permeability, while reducing application time or less drying may cause extensive nanoleakage.

Resin composite adhesion to dentin using different curing lights and adhesive systems applied under electric current

Carolina Menezes Maciel et al.

Summary: The application of electric current increased the bond strength of all adhesive systems light-cured with both single-emission peak and multiple-emission peak LCUs. Among the adhesive systems tested, CSE applied under electric current demonstrated the highest mean bond strength values. The adhesive failure pattern was more frequently observed in all groups, and the electric current application resulted in the formation of long resin tags for all adhesive systems.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that using warm-air stream for solvent evaporation can improve bond strength to dentin of water or alcohol-based adhesive systems, but not for acetone-based adhesive systems. The overall effect suggests that bond strength can be enhanced with the use of warm-air stream.

Bond Strength of Universal Adhesives to Dentin: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Louis Hardan et al.

Summary: The study found that using specific techniques and additional strategies can significantly improve the bond strength of universal adhesives to dentin, and inhibitors and specific operating methods can enhance the bonding effect. However, certain methods such as shortening application time and dentin desensitizers may decrease the bond strength of universal adhesives to dentin.

Rim Bourgi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of ribose (RB) on demineralized resin-dentin specimens. Incorporating 1% or 2% RB in the adhesive showed improved wettability, protease inhibition, and stability of demineralized dentin substrates. A higher RB concentration was associated with better outcomes in terms of bond strength and protease inhibition.

Shelf Life and Storage Conditions of Universal Adhesives: A Literature Review

Georgi Iliev et al.

Summary: Universal adhesive systems show great potential for development, but careful handling and storage are crucial for success, with attention to details such as shelf-life and storage conditions. The components of universal adhesives play a significant role in their stability, and formulations without HEMA may lead to longer shelf-life. Further research is needed to validate these hypotheses.

The Bond Strength and Antibacterial Activity of the Universal Dentin Bonding System: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Louis Hardan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated universal adhesives (UAs) in vitro bond strength to dentin and inhibition of S. mutans growth, comparing them with UAs modified with antimicrobial agents. Results showed that UAs modified with antimicrobial agents had higher antibacterial effect against S. mutans and improved bond strength to dentin. However, there is a lack of valid data on the antibacterial properties of modified UAs, indicating the need for further well-designed research on these materials.
