Beneficial effect of ursodeoxycholic acid in patients with acyl-CoA oxidase 2 (ACOX2) deficiency-associated hypertransaminasemia

Marta Alonso-Pena et al.

Summary: Dysfunctional ACOX2 has been found to be associated with unexplained hypertransaminasemia. A noninvasive diagnostic strategy based on plasma bile acid profiling and ACOX2 sequencing can accurately identify this condition, and treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid can effectively attenuate liver damage in these patients.
