Comparison of protein characterization using In solution and S-Trap digestion methods for proteomics

Geul Bang et al.

Summary: Protein extraction and digestion are crucial steps in proteomics research. The use of SDS buffer enables effective analysis of diverse proteins. This study evaluated the use of the S-Trap digestion method combined with SDS buffer extraction and compared it to the traditional In solution digestion method. The results showed that S-Trap digestion with SDS buffer increased the number of identified proteins, particularly those located inside multilayer membranes.

Precision Glycoproteomics Reveals Distinctive N-Glycosylation in Human Spermatozoa

Miaomiao Xin et al.

Summary: This study identifies distinctive glycoproteins in spermatozoa that are involved in various important processes, such as spermatogenesis, acrosome reaction, sperm-egg recognition, and fertilization. The research also highlights the different glycosylation patterns in spermatozoa compared to other tissues. These findings provide valuable insights into the glycosylation of spermatozoa and lay the foundation for further studies on male infertility.

Impact of antibiotics on spermatozoa quality and bacterial load of chilled-stored camels (Camelus dromedarius) semen

I. M. Ghoneim et al.

Summary: This experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of different antibiotics on bacterial load and sperm quality of dromedary camels during processing and cold storage. The results showed that the diluent containing gentamicin had the highest motility percentage and maintained the integrity of sperm membrane and acrosome.

Comparative N-Glycoproteomics Analysis of Clinical Samples Via Different Mass Spectrometry Dissociation Methods

Wenjuan Zeng et al.

Summary: “Site-specific N-glycosylation characterization requires intact N-glycopeptide analysis based on suitable tandem mass spectrometry methods. Various approaches, including EThcD, sceHCD, HCD-pd-ETD, and EThcD-sceHCD, have been developed for glycoprotein analysis, each with its own strengths and compromises. Comparative analysis showed that EThcD-sceHCD performed well in identifying intact N-glycopeptides with depth and accuracy, holding great potential for biomarker discovery in clinical samples.”

Activation of PTH1R alleviates epididymitis and orchitis through Gq and β-arrestin-1 pathways

Ming-Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Research has shown the immunoregulatory role of PTH1R in the epididymis and testis, where activation of this receptor can alleviate inflammation caused by viruses or bacteria and improve sperm function. This suggests targeting PTH1R could have therapeutic effects for inflammatory diseases in the male reproductive system.

Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection: a clinical practice update

Rocco M. Zagari et al.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori infection remains a major health issue, with approximately 4 billion infected subjects in 2015. Increasing antibiotic resistance has complicated treatment regimens, with quadruple therapies recommended as first-line treatment. Probiotic supplementation is advised to reduce antibiotic-related adverse events. Overall, current evidence supports international guideline recommendations for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection.

Diagnosis and Management of Infertility A Review

Sandra Ann Carson et al.

Summary: Approximately 12.7% of reproductive age women in the US seek treatment for infertility each year. Infertility is defined as failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Lifestyle factors like smoking and obesity can adversely affect fertility. Ovulatory disorders and male factor infertility are common causes, with polycystic ovary syndrome and unexplained infertility also prevalent. Various treatment options are available, including ovulation induction and in vitro fertilization (IVF), with age being a significant factor in decision-making.
