Preliminary study of icariin indicating prevention of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of femoral head by regulating abnormal expression of miRNA-335 and protecting the functions of bone microvascular endothelial cells in rats

Ju'an Yue et al.

Summary: The study found that Icariin (ICA) can effectively prevent steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in rats; by regulating the expression of miRNA-335 and improving the migration and angiogenesis abilities of BMECs, ICA has a protective effect against steroid-induced BMECs injury.

Summary: Glucocorticoids are essential for regulating physiological processes, but chronic steroid use may lead to limited therapeutic benefits. Understanding how to modulate glucocorticoid receptor activity is crucial for minimizing side effects and improving treatment outcomes.

Steroid-Induced Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head: Novel Insight Into the Roles of Bone Endothelial Cells in Pathogenesis and Treatment

Cheng Huang et al.

Summary: SONFH is characterized by the collapse of the femoral head, often caused by the overuse of glucocorticoids in patients with immune-related diseases. Impaired blood vessels, specifically bone endothelial cells, play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of SONFH. Despite candidate reagents showing promise in improving SONFH, they are still in the preclinical stage. Bone tissue engineering, such as co-transplantation of bone endothelial cells and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, may offer another feasible therapeutic strategy.

ARG2, MAP4K5 and TSTA3 as Diagnostic Markers of Steroid-Induced Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head and Their Correlation With Immune Infiltration

Rongguo Yu et al.

Summary: This study identified 383 DEGs and found ARG2, MAP4K5, and TSTA3 to be diagnostic markers of SONFH with an AUC of 0.980. qRT-PCR results showed significant differences in all markers. Analysis of immune cell infiltration indicated potential relationships between neutrophils, activated dendritic cells, memory B cells and SONFH. Additionally, diagnostic markers showed correlations with T cell follicular helper, neutrophils, memory B cells, and activated dendritic cells.
