Adiponectin deficiency promotes endometrial carcinoma pathogenesis and development via activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase

Yunjing Yan et al.

Summary: Obesity is a major risk factor for cancer, and reduced adiponectin activity promotes the development of endometrial cancer by activating the MAPK signaling pathway.

Adiponectin suppresses tumor growth of nasopharyngeal carcinoma through activating AMPK signaling pathway

Zongmeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates for the first time that circulating adiponectin is inversely associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and controls its development through the AMPK signaling pathway. Activating adiponectin function may serve as a novel therapeutic modality for NPC.

Adiponectin Suppresses Metastasis of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma through Blocking the Activation of NF-kappa B and STAT3 Signaling

Zongmeng Zhang et al.

Summary: Adiponectin has multiple effects including regulation of metabolism, inhibition of cancer growth, and suppression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) metastasis. Activation of the adiponectin receptor may be a promising therapeutic strategy for NPC metastasis.

A Gene-Expression Predictor for Efficacy of Induction Chemotherapy in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Yuan Lei et al.

Summary: A 6-gene signature has been developed to predict the short-term tumor response to induction chemotherapy (IC) accurately. IC only confers survival benefits on patients in the benefit group identified by the gene signature, while showing no benefits on those in the no-benefit group. The gene signature has been validated in both clinical trial and external independent cohorts, indicating its potential for selecting beneficiaries of IC in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Adipocytokines visfatin and resistin in breast cancer: Clinical relevance, biological mechanisms, and therapeutic potential

Yen-Yun Wang et al.

Summary: Obesity is a major modifiable risk factor for breast cancer, with adipocytokines like visfatin and resistin playing important roles in tumor-stromal interactions and breast cancer development. Therapeutic strategies targeting these adipocytokines hold promise for novel breast cancer therapies.
