Efficacy and Safety Comparison of Regorafenib and Fruquintinib in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer-An Observational Cohort Study in the Real World

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: This ambispective observational cohort study evaluated the differences in efficacy and safety between regorafenib and fruquintinib in patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) in China. The study found that regorafenib and fruquintinib had similar efficacy in a real-world setting and their toxicity profiles were also similar but with different frequencies. Additionally, the sequence of regorafenib followed by fruquintinib showed longer overall survival.

Refractory hypokalemia caused by cetuximab with advanced colorectal cancer patients: the case series and literature review

Yun-Wang Chen et al.

Summary: This article reports two cases of refractory hypokalemia caused by cetuximab without hypomagnesemia. The occurrence of hypokalemia was clearly correlated with the cetuximab, and they were significantly improved after stopping or reducing the dose. At the same time, the appearance of hypokalemia is significantly related to the efficacy of cetuximab.

Pembrolizumab versus chemotherapy for microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient metastatic colorectal cancer (KEYNOTE-177): final analysis of a randomised, open-label, phase 3 study

Luis A. Diaz et al.

Summary: The final overall survival analysis of the KEYNOTE-177 study showed that while pembrolizumab continued to demonstrate durable antitumor activity and fewer treatment-related adverse events compared to chemotherapy in patients with microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient metastatic colorectal cancer, there was no statistically significant difference in overall survival between the two treatment groups.

EMT, cancer stem cells and autophagy; The three main axes of metastasis

Ghader Babaei et al.

Summary: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and Cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) are major factors contributing to cancer cell metastasis. Autophagy has recently gained attention, playing a dual role in cancer cell development depending on cancer type, tissue, and stage. Studies show different signaling pathways are involved in cancer stem cells, autophagy, and EMT. Investigating effective signaling pathways in all three processes could help determine appropriate therapeutic goals.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: A Review

Leah H. Biller et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. For patients diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer, approximately 70% to 75% can survive beyond 1 year. Tailoring treatments based on the molecular and pathologic features of the tumor has shown to improve overall survival rates.

Personalized medicine: Stem cells in colorectal cancer treatment

Athanasios Patsalias et al.

Summary: The study examines the potential of stem cells in cancer treatment, particularly in colorectal cancer. Stem cells can serve as biomarkers, facilitate personalized treatment, and guide the development of targeted therapies. The review suggests that stem cells offer dynamic potential for improving current treatment approaches and enhancing outcomes for cancer patients, specifically in CRC.

Hypoxia-induced Nur77 activates PI3K/Akt signaling via suppression of Dicer/let-7i-5p to induce epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition

Zeyu Shi et al.

Summary: Nur77 functions as a novel regulator of microRNA biogenesis in promoting CRC progression under hypoxia, potentially through inhibition of p63-dependent transcription. Knockdown of Nur77 or overexpression of let-7i-5p can inhibit CRC metastasis.
