Clinical Progress of PD-1/L1 Inhibitors in Breast Cancer Immunotherapy

Fei Chen et al.

Summary: Although breast cancer has lower immunogenicity compared to other solid tumors, combination therapy can improve tumor immunogenicity and sensitize breast cancer cells to immunotherapy. Immunotherapy, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, has been widely studied in breast cancer, including early and advanced disease. Triple-negative breast cancer has been the most studied, with PD-L1 inhibitors in combination with nab-paclitaxel used in first-line treatment. Immunotherapeutic data for human epidermal growth factor receptor-positive and hormone receptor-positive breast cancer are also accumulating.

Thermal Ablation as an Alternative for Surgical Resection of Small (≤ 2 cm) Breast Cancers: A Meta-Analysis

Elles M. F. van de Voort et al.

Summary: Thermal ablation techniques, such as radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, and cryoablation, are safe and effective for treating early-stage breast cancer (<= 2 cm), with low complication rates and high complete ablation rates. Larger randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the potential of these techniques as alternatives to surgical resection in the treatment of T1 breast cancer.

Modulation of the immune microenvironment of high-risk ductal carcinoma in situ by intralesional pembrolizumab injection

Alexa C. Glencer et al.

Summary: In high-risk DCIS patients, intralesional injections of the PD-1 immune checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab led to significant increases in T cell percentage. However, evidence of cell death or tumor volume decrease was not observed, indicating that additional strategies may be needed for stronger anti-tumor immunity.
