Tactile Sensibility Thresholds in Implant Prosthesis, Complete Dentures and Natural Dentition: Review about Their Value in Literature

Diego Gonzalez-Gil et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on tactile sensibility threshold in periodontium and prosthetic rehabilitations. The results showed that implant prostheses have similar and lower thresholds compared to natural dentition, indicating increased tactile sensibility. The differences in active tactile sensibility thresholds were smaller than those in passive tactile sensibility thresholds, which were influenced by receptors from periodontal or periimplant tissues.

Importance of Osseoperception and Tactile Sensibility during Masticatory Function in Different Prosthetic Rehabilitations: A Review

Diego Gonzalez-Gil et al.

Summary: This study reviewed the available literature to determine the difference in tactile sensibility values between implant prosthesis, complete dentures, and natural teeth. The results showed that tactile sensibility in implant prostheses is slightly reduced compared to natural dentition but presents improved values compared to complete dentures. Therefore, implant prostheses are more effective during masticatory function than complete dentures, as they have increased tactile sensibility similar to natural dentition.

Active Tactile Sensibility of Branemark Protocol Prostheses: A Case-Control Clinical Study

Nathalia Moraes et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the active tactile sensibility in patients rehabilitated with implants, finding that their sensibility was significantly lower compared to patients with healthy dentition. Sensibility increased with the thickness of the carbon foils.

Masticatory Force in Relation with Age in Subjects with Full Permanent Dentition: A Cross-Sectional Study

Ottavia Poli et al.

Summary: Masticatory performance is directly linked to masticatory muscle work to grind and cut food, and chewing efficacy is crucial for maintaining overall health. Older individuals tend to have more oral health problems, while males generally have stronger bite force than females. Furthermore, younger subjects typically exhibit stronger bite force compared to older individuals.

Effect of complete dentures on oral stereognostic ability in edentulous patients: A systematic review

Bappaditya Bhattacharjee et al.

Summary: Oral stereognosis is crucial for humans to perceive substances in the oral cavity without using vision or other senses. Complete denture treatment therapy has been shown to improve stereognostic ability, leading to better recognition of objects for edentulous individuals.
