Automatic assessment of collaterals physiology in chronic total occlusions by means of artificial intelligence

Lili Liu et al.

Summary: This study successfully assessed the collaterals physiology in chronic total occlusions using an artificial intelligence-aided angiography method. The changes in collateral flow with the novel method were quantitatively proportional to the angiographic grading of the collaterals.

Summary: The study found a positive correlation between Lp(a) elevation and cardiovascular risk, especially at high LDL-C levels. However, this correlation did not exist when LDL-C levels were extremely low.

Summary: This study constructed prediction models for the presence and severity of coronary artery calcification (CAC) in nondialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients using machine learning (ML). The ML logistic regression (LR) model showed the best performance.

Risk predicting for acute coronary syndrome based on machine learning model with kinetic plaque features from serial coronary computed tomography angiography

Yabin Wang et al.

Summary: More and more patients suspected of coronary artery disease are undergoing coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) as a gatekeeper. However, the prospective relation of plaque features to acute coronary syndrome (ACS) events has not been explored. The study suggests that dynamic changes in plaque features are highly related to subsequent ACS events.

Machine learning models for prediction of adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention

Nozomi Niimi et al.

Summary: This study compares the predictive ability of machine learning techniques and existing risk scoring models for adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The results show that the machine learning models have a modest improvement in predicting acute kidney injury and bleeding, but perform poorly in predicting in-hospital mortality. Overall, the improvement in risk prediction using machine learning techniques is minimal.

Comparative Analysis of Patient Characteristics in Chronic Total Occlusion Revascularization Studies Trials vs Real-World Registries

Michael Megaly et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the differences between real-world chronic total occlusion (CTO) patients and those enrolled in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on CTO percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The study found that RCT patients had lower comorbidities and less complex CTOs compared to registry patients. The current evidence from RCTs may not reflect the characteristics of real-world patients and should be interpreted with caution.

Joint Associations of Multiple Dietary Components With Cardiovascular Disease Risk: A Machine-Learning Approach

Yi Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of human diet on cardiovascular health, analyzing data from nearly 2000 participants to discover gender-specific associations between diet and ASCVD risk. The results showed that unprocessed red meat had a strong risk influence on women, while fruit consumption showed a negative association with ASCVD risk in men, and there was a synergistic interaction between whole grain and fruit intake.

Summary: CTO PCI is a challenging procedure with the main goal of improving symptoms. While success rates are high at experienced centers, they remain low in all-comer registries. Evaluating the difficulty and likelihood of success, as well as improving techniques and utilizing intracoronary imaging, can enhance the success and safety of CTO PCI.
