Cemented Versus Cementless Total Knee Arthroplasty in Obese Patients With Body Mass Index ≥35 kg/m2: A Contemporary Analysis of 812 Patients

Graham S. Goh et al.

Summary: Obese patients undergoing cementless or cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA) of the same modern design had similar outcomes and survivorship. This study suggests that cementless TKA may be a viable option for obese patients, providing comparable results to cemented TKA.

Component migration, bone mineral density changes, and bone turnover markers in cementless and cemented total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized RSA study in 53 patients with 2-year follow-up

Karina Norgaard Linde et al.

Summary: The study found that the migration of cementless and cemented tibial components was similar at 1- and 2-year follow-up, but there was a higher proportion of continuous migration in cementless components. Cementless components showed an increase in bone density, while cemented components showed a decrease. Bone turnover markers increased post-surgery in both groups, but did not explain the difference in change in periprosthetic BMD.

Cemented Total Knee Arthroplasty Shows Less Blood Loss but a Higher Rate of Aseptic Loosening Compared With Cementless Fixation: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies

Michele Mercurio et al.

Summary: This study compared functional outcomes, complications, and reoperation rates between cemented and cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) through evaluating published comparative studies over the past 15 years. Results showed that cemented TKA had better Knee Society Score and range of motion, less blood loss, but higher risks of manipulation under anesthesia and aseptic loosening compared to cementless TKA.

What is the role of cemented fixation in total knee arthroplasty? The two-year results of a randomized RSA controlled trial

B. van Ooij et al.

Summary: The study found no significant difference in RSA secondary stabilization measurements between cemented, uncemented, and hybrid fixation in total knee arthroplasty. Patient-reported outcome measures significantly improved in all treatment groups at 24 months post-surgery, with no significant difference observed between the three groups. The type of fixation to the bone is not expected to influence the long-term outcome for the implant used in this study.

Survivorship, Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes of a Novel Cementless Metal-Backed Patella Design

Luis C. Grau et al.

Summary: The study evaluated a novel cementless metal-backed patellar component and showed excellent clinical and radiographic outcomes at 2-year and 5-year follow-up. The component demonstrated high biologic fixation rates and stability, with improvements in clinical scores observed over time.

Evaluation of different coatings of the tibial tray in uncemented total knee arthroplasty. A randomized controlled trial with 5 years follow-up with RSA and DEXA

Karen Dyreborg et al.

Summary: This study compared the Regenerex (VR) and non-interconnecting pore structure Porous Plasma Spray (VP) for tibial implants in total knee arthroplasty over a 5-year period. Results showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of migration, with both groups exhibiting recognizable migration. The study will continue to follow the groups for further evaluation.

Bone Conduction Capacity of Highly Porous 3D-Printed Titanium Scaffolds Based on Different Pore Designs

Ho-Kyung Lim et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of pore design and implantation period on bone formation in porous titanium scaffolds manufactured via 3D printing. There were no differences observed in bone formation according to pore design or implantation period. The percentage of new bone and surface density in the pore structure were found to be approximately 25% and 8 mm(2)/mm(3), respectively.
