Impact of integrated clinical decision support systems in the management of pediatric acute kidney injury: a pilot study

Shina Menon et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the use of clinical decision support system can improve early recognition and management of acute kidney injury (AKI) in hospitalized children. Patients in the CDS phase had higher documentation of AKI, more adjustments in nephrotoxic medications or fluid plans, and higher estimated glomerular filtration rate at discharge and follow-up.

Acute kidney injury and its progression in hospitalized patients-Results from a retrospective multicentre cohort study with a digital decision support system

Thea Sophie Kister et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential benefits of a clinical decision support system (CDSS) for the automated detection of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) were evaluated. It was found that AKI was associated with higher hospital mortality and increased length of hospitalization. 19.1% of AKI cases progressed to higher AKI stages during hospitalization, showing significantly longer hospitalization and increased mortality rates.

AACC Guidance Document on Laboratory Investigation of Acute Kidney Injury

Joe M. El-Khoury et al.

Summary: The guidance document aims to provide updated information on the best practices for laboratory investigation of AKI, including clinical indications, analytical considerations, traditional markers, urinary microscopic examination, new biomarkers, and automated AKI alerts. Expert recommendations based on available evidence are provided to inform clinicians and laboratorians on the current developments in AKI diagnosis and management.
