Investigating the relationship between orthorexia nervosa and autistic traits in a university population

Barbara Carpita et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between ON and autistic traits in a university population, finding a significant overlap between ON and autism spectrum psychopathology. The ON group scored significantly higher on almost all AdAS spectrum domains, and being female and scoring higher on AdAS spectrum were statistically predictive factors for the presence of ON symptomatology. Further studies are needed to clarify the relationship between restrictive eating disorders and female autism phenotypes.

A Review and Expert Opinion on the Neuropsychiatric Assessment of Motor Functional Neurological Disorders

David L. Perez et al.

Summary: Functional neurological (conversion) disorder (FND) is a prevalent and disabling condition that lies at the intersection of neurology and psychiatry. A narrative review was conducted to identify clinically relevant variables across FND cohorts, emphasizing the importance of considering both physical signs and psychiatric factors in diagnosing and treating FND. The proposed neuropsychiatric assessment aims to diagnose FND by using rule-in physical signs while also incorporating psychiatric and psychosocial factors to develop a patient-centered treatment plan.

Misdirected attentional focus in functional tremor

Anne-Catherine M. L. Huys et al.

Summary: The study found that in functional tremor, the attentional focus on ongoing visual feedback from the movement is not beneficial and has a detrimental impact on motor performance. This altered attentional focus may partly responsible for functional tremor, and it also worsens motor performance in healthy control participants and patients with an organic action tremor when directed towards visual feedback.

International online survey of 1048 individuals with functional neurological disorder

Matthew Butler et al.

Summary: This large-scale international study on Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) patient experiences highlighted that FND patients typically have high levels of multiple symptom comorbidities and distress. The study also supported the clinical significance of associated physical symptoms in FND patients, and most respondents preferred to conceptualize the disorder as one at the interface of mind and brain. The need for a broad approach to this poorly served patient group was emphasized.

Gender Differences in Misdiagnosis and Delayed Diagnosis among Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder with No Language or Intellectual Disability

Camilla Gesi et al.

Summary: This study highlights the fact that women with Autism Spectrum Disorder are more likely to be overlooked or misdiagnosed compared to men, often resulting in a delay in diagnosis. Females also tend to seek help for comorbid conditions later than males, indicating a need for increased awareness and understanding of gender-specific differences in ASD diagnosis and treatment.
