O-Arm Stereotactic Imaging in Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery Workflow: A Utility and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis

Luciano Furlanetti et al.

Summary: The use of the Medtronic O-arm device in DBS surgery significantly reduced the duration of image acquisition, exposure to ionizing radiation, and costs when compared with standard stereotactic MRI or CT, without compromising accuracy.

A quantitative analysis of the effect of bilateral subthalamic nucleus- deep brain stimulation on subjective and objective sleep parameters in Parkinson's disease

Zixiao Yin et al.

Summary: Bilateral subthalamic nucleus-deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) continuously improves subjective nocturnal sleep in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), but its effect on daytime sleepiness only lasts for 1 year. Medication reduction and motor improvement may contribute to improved daytime sleepiness and better subjective nocturnal sleep, respectively.

Driving restrictions following deep brain stimulation surgery

Andrew Roy Charmley et al.

Summary: The study found a lack of guidance on driving restrictions following DBS surgery in Australia, with proposed recommendations of 6-week driving restriction for private licenses and 6-month restriction for commercial licenses. Survey of Australian practitioners showed a universal acceptance of the need for driving restrictions after DBS surgery but significant heterogeneity in how return to driving is managed.

Macular microcirculation characteristics in Parkinson's disease evaluated by OCT-Angiography: a literature review

Evita Evangelia Christou et al.

Summary: The retina may serve as a predictive factor for neurodegenerative disorders, with recent use of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) in studying macular microcirculation changes in Parkinson's disease (PD). While preliminary evidence suggests OCT-A could be a useful biomarker for cerebral vasculature in PD, further research is needed to confirm its predictive value in clinical practice.
