Mechanical Properties and Residual Stress Depth Profiles of Plasma Sprayed Ceramic Coatings Deposited Under Comparable Particle Temperature and Velocity

Tina Ghara et al.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on ceramic coatings produced using plasma spraying under comparable conditions. The coatings were characterized for their mechanical properties and residual stress profiles. The results showed that the residual stress field in the coatings depended on their coefficient of thermal expansion and that the highly compressive residual stress in the substrate was relaxed after coating deposition.

Plasma sprayed alumina-yttria composite ceramic coating for electrical insulation applications

Paulson Varghese et al.

Summary: The composite ceramic coating with cermet interlayer and bond coat, deposited by APS and HVOF processes respectively, showed excellent thermal fatigue resistance after 1000 thermal cycles. The combined layers effectively reduced thermal expansion mismatch stresses and improved the insulation resistance of the coated samples despite a slight decrease in bonding strength after thermal cycling.

Initial Stages of Oxide Formation on Copper Surfaces during Oxygen Bombardment at Room Temperature

Robert Peter et al.

Summary: The study revealed two stages in the oxidation process of copper surfaces, with the formation of Cu2O phase at lower oxygen doses and preferential formation of CuO phase at higher doses. The relative contributions of Cu2O and CuO phases were determined through spectral analysis, while the thickness of the oxides was estimated from depth profiles.

Microstructure, phase and dielectric strength of thermally sprayed alumina layers in coating-based heating systems

Morvarid Mohammadian Bajgiran et al.

Summary: Alumina was deposited onto carbon steel substrates by suspension plasma spraying and flame spraying processes, followed by deposition of Ni-20Cr as the heating element using air plasma spraying. The dielectric properties of alumina layers were significantly affected by their microstructural features, with penetration of the metal topcoat into the alumina layer decreasing the overall breakdown voltage of the system.
