Stabilization of Silver Nanoparticles on Polyester Fabric Using Organo-Matrices for Controlled Antimicrobial Performance

Ana Isabel Ribeiro et al.

Summary: This study functionalized polyester fabric with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using biocompatible layers of chitosan or hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO). The addition of these layers protected the AgNPs, controlled their release, and enhanced antimicrobial properties. The sample with two layers of chitosan showed the highest efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Interdisciplinary Research to Advance Digital Imagery and Natural Compounds for Eco-Cleaning and for Preserving Textile Cultural Heritage

Dorina Camelia Ilies et al.

Summary: This study aims to test a natural and non-invasive method of cleaning historic textiles using lye, a natural substance with antifungal properties. Through artificial intelligence techniques, the study examined a traditional women's shirt aged between 80-100 years, using Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The results showed a decrease in microorganism colonies and dust after washing with lye, and changes in the cellulose fibers.
