A Novel Visible-Depth-Thermal Image Dataset of Salient Object Detection for Robotic Visual Perception

Kechen Song et al.

Summary: Visual perception is crucial for industrial information field, specifically in robotic grasping application. To achieve fast and accurate object detection for grasping, salient object detection (SOD) is employed. However, existing SOD methods still have limitations in practical application due to complex interference. To address this, a novel triple-modal images fusion strategy called visible-depth-thermal (VDT) SOD is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches.

Image Data Assessment Approach for Deep Learning-Based Metal Surface Defect-Detection Systems

Hsien-I. Lin et al.

Summary: The current trend in AOI systems involves using deep learning models to detect defects on metal surfaces. However, deep learning models can be time-consuming to train, as images obtained after lighting adjustments need to be used for training and checking detection improvements. A comprehensive assessment score was proposed to save time by evaluating defect visibility, distribution, and overexposure to improve detection rates without training defect image datasets. Visibility and overexposure were found to have a greater impact on the assessment score, and the proposed method showed better correlation to detection models' F2-score compared to traditional image quality assessment methods.
