Seismic vulnerability assessment of tall pier bridges under mainshock-aftershock-like earthquake sequences using vector-valued intensity measure

Xu Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic fragility and financial losses of tall pier bridges subjected to mainshock-aftershock (MA) sequences. The results show that while the mainshocks have a more substantial impact, neglecting the aftershocks underestimates the failure probability and financial loss of the bridge.

Seismic performance of reinforced concrete beams under freeze-thaw cycles

Xian-Liang Rong et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the seismic resistance of frost-damaged reinforced concrete beams under low-cycle reciprocating load. The results show that the number of freeze-thaw cycles and concrete strength have significant effects on the seismic resistance of the damaged beams. Frost action negatively affects the strength, deformation, and energy dissipation of the beams, especially when they are highly frost-damaged.

Investigation on seawater freeze-thaw damage deterioration of marine concrete structures in cold regions from multi-scale

Rong-xin Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, the freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs) test and damage distribution test were conducted to examine the deterioration of marine reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Based on the temperature distribution, pore water crystallization law, and critical saturation of concrete under seawater FTCs, a calculation method of FTCs damage from multi-scale was established, which accurately reflected the damage behavior of specimens. The temperature distribution had a greater impact on the FTCs than the critical saturation.

Analysis of collapse resistance of offshore rigid frame - Continuous girder bridge based on time-varying fragility

Yan Liang et al.

Summary: The key to ensure the service performance of a bridge during its service period is to control its material durability damage and continuous collapse. A new quantitative criterion for collapse resistance was proposed for a specific bridge in an offshore seismic prone region, taking into account the time-varying durability damage and bond-slip effect on material properties. The fragility and importance coefficient increase with service life, while the robustness coefficient decreases, reflecting the bridge's anti-collapse performance over time.

Numerical and theoretical investigation on the size effect of concrete compressive strength considering the maximum aggregate size

Liu Jin et al.

Summary: The study found that the maximum aggregate size of concrete significantly affects the crack propagation form and compressive strength, and proposed a modified Type-2 size effect law to better predict the size effect behavior of concrete. The numerical analysis and experimental results validated the modified size effect law, demonstrating its effectiveness in predicting concrete size effect behavior.

Modeling the lateral behavior of freeze-thaw damaged reinforced concrete columns including reinforcement slip and shear effects

Yixin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on modeling the lateral load-deformation response of reinforced concrete columns subjected to freeze-thaw cycles, considering the effects on flexure, reinforcement slip, and shear. The proposed column response model accurately simulates the cyclic behavior of columns experiencing freeze-thaw cycles, incorporating non-uniform reduction in concrete strength and bond deterioration between steel and concrete.
