Study of a novel front-roof-back natural ventilation system for Chinese solar greenhouses

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel ventilation configuration for Chinese solar greenhouses (CSG) called front bottom + top + back roof (FTB). Field testing and simulation were conducted to compare the performance of FTB with other ventilation structures, and the results showed that FTB improved ventilation efficiency and uniformity.

Solar greenhouses: Climates, glass selection, and plant well-being

Domenico Mazzeo et al.

Summary: Solar greenhouses are currently the most energy-intensive agricultural sector. This study analyzes the performance of a Venlo solar greenhouse for 48 localities around the world, aiming to identify the best solution of a transparent envelope for locations with different latitudes. The study found that regardless of climate, the best glass solutions work better in winter than in summer, and the optimal choice of glass must be combined with effective scheduling of openings for natural ventilation to avoid internal overheating phenomena.
