Intermittent Dissipation at Kinetic Scales in the Turbulent Reconnection Outflow

S. Y. Huang et al.

Summary: Based on high-resolution data from the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, this study investigates energy dissipation in turbulent reconnection outflow in the terrestrial magnetotail. The results show intermittent dissipation at kinetic scales in the turbulent reconnection outflow, accompanied by electron heating and an increase in temperature in intermittent structures and regions with strong currents.

Electron-only Reconnection in an Ion-scale Current Sheet at the Magnetopause

S. Y. Huang et al.

Summary: Observations suggest the presence of electron-only magnetic reconnection without ion coupling in a current sheet, challenging the standard model of magnetic reconnection. The inner electron diffusion region observed is much longer than predicted by theory, indicating a need for further understanding of electron-scale reconnection.

Energy Budgets From Collisionless Magnetic Reconnection Site to Reconnection Front

Yukang Shu et al.

Summary: Collisionless magnetic reconnection is common in space plasma environments, with the reconnection site being unstable and generating reconnection fronts. Energy conversion mainly occurs at the reconnection fronts, while the reconnection rate only represents the energy conversion at the reconnection site.

Observation of High-Frequency Electrostatic Waves in the Dip Region Ahead of Dipolarization Front

Y. Y. Wei et al.

Summary: By using high resolution data from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, high-frequency electrostatic waves have been observed in the dip region ahead of the dipolarization front (DF). These waves have frequencies higher than the electron cyclotron frequency but lower than the electron plasma frequency, and are generated by a positive slope in the measured field-aligned electron distribution function (EDF).

Betatron Cooling of Electrons in Martian Magnetotail

Z. Z. Guo et al.

Summary: This study reports two events of betatron cooling in the Martian magnetotail using MAVEN measurements, successfully reproducing these processes quantitatively with an analytical model. The results demonstrate the betatron-cooling effect beyond the Earth and provide insights into electron dynamics in the planetary magnetosphere.

Global Spatial Distribution of Dipolarization Fronts in the Saturn's Magnetosphere: Cassini Observations

S. B. Xu et al.

Summary: Through analyzing data from the Cassini spacecraft, researchers have identified and characterized dipolarization fronts (DF) in Saturn's magnetosphere. They found that DFs are not only present in the nightside magnetotail, but also in the dayside magnetosphere, with an asymmetric distribution between the northern and southern hemispheres. The presence of DFs on the dayside suggests that magnetic reconnection may occur in this region as well.
