Comparative genomics reveal the convergent evolution of CYP82D and CYP706X members related to flavone biosynthesis in Lamiaceae and Asteraceae

Ranran Gao et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the production of scutellarein in the two distant species, Scutellaria baicalensis and Erigeron breviscapus, is caused by the convergent evolution of two independently evolved CYP450 families. Additionally, the function of flavone 6-hydroxylase (F6H) evolved from flavone 8-hydroxylase (F8H), with key amino acids contributing to scutellarein biosynthesis. The research provides important insights into the multi-origin evolution of the same secondary metabolite biosynthesis in the plant kingdom.

Functional Characterization of a Flavone Synthase That Participates in a Kumquat Flavone Metabolon

Shulin Tian et al.

Summary: This study identified two kumquat FNSII genes, with FcFNSII-2 directly synthesizing apigenin and acacetin from naringenin and isosakuranetin, respectively. Overexpression of FcFNSII-2 enhanced the transcription of structural genes and the accumulation of O-glycosyl flavones in kumquat peels.

Comprehensive Analysis of Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenases Reveals Insight Into Their Role in Partial Resistance Against Phytophthora sojae in Soybean

Praveen Khatri et al.

Summary: Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450) play important roles in the catalytic conversion of biological compounds in plants. In this study, 346 P450 enzymes encoded by 317 genes were identified in soybean, and their composition, structure, expression, and distribution were compared. Analysis of transcriptomic datasets and co-expression analysis identified some P450 enzymes that may be involved in partial resistance against Phytophthora sojae. This study provides new insights into the functions of P450 enzymes in soybean metabolism.

How plants coordinate their development in response to light and temperature signals

Xu Li et al.

Summary: Light and temperature play crucial roles in plant growth and development, with plants using common elements to perceive and respond to these external signals. These signaling networks are essential for plant survival and adaptation in ever-changing environmental conditions. Future research on light and temperature signaling pathways is discussed.

Three AP2/ERF family members modulate flavonoid synthesis by regulating type IV chalcone isomerase in citrus

Chenning Zhao et al.

Summary: CitCHIL1 enhances the accumulation of citrus flavanones and flavones by assisting the cyclization of naringenin chalcone. The transcription factors CitERF32, CitERF33, and CitRAV1 positively regulate the expression of CitCHIL1, forming a complex that enhances flavonoid production. This study provides insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying efficient flavonoid biosynthesis.

Cytochrome P450 Superfamily: Evolutionary and Functional Divergence in Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) Stress Resistance

Yuanpeng Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, 351 CYP genes in the sorghum genome were identified and classified into nine classes, originating from ancestors and repeated segments. The extension of a large number of CYP genes before the emergence of Gramineae suggests that genome duplication events and stress adaptation were crucial for their expansion.
