The Association of Prepregnancy Body Mass Index with Pregnancy Outcomes in Chinese Women

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: Our study found that underweight was associated with an increased risk of preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), while prepregnancy obesity was associated with a higher risk of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, but a lower risk of anemia.

Prevalence and impact of pre-pregnancy body mass index on pregnancy outcome: a cross-sectional study in Croatia

Katja Vince et al.

Summary: This study in Croatia found that overweight and obese pregnant women had higher rates of induction of labor and delivery by caesarean section compared to normal-BMI women, while underweight and obese women had higher rates of preterm birth. Overweight and obese women also had a higher prevalence of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia. Older maternal age, higher BMI, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia were significant predictors of non-spontaneous onset of labor and not delivering vaginally.

Secular trends in the prevalence of abdominal obesity among Chinese adults with normal weight, 1993-2015

Xingxing Sun et al.

Summary: Recent research on Chinese adults with normal BMI revealed a significant increase in abdominal obesity over a 23-year period, across genders, age groups, urban and rural regions, and educational backgrounds. Adding waist circumference as a measure of obesity prevalence is crucial for monitoring trends in obesity among this population.
