Impact of weekdays versus weekend days on accelerometer measured physical behavior among children and adolescents: results from the MoMo study

Alexander Burchartz et al.

Summary: Structured activities, such as those in school, are consistent and limited in scope, while after-school or weekend activities involve a wider range of behaviors. Studies have shown that physical activity is lower on weekends compared to weekdays or school days. The current analysis examined accelerometer data of children and adolescents in Germany and found that wear time and moderate to vigorous physical activity was lower on weekends. Girls were less active and more sedentary than boys, and older children were less active than younger children. Sleep duration increased with age. The study suggests the need for interventions to shift activity away from sedentary behavior towards a more active lifestyle.

Detection and characterization of male sex chromosome abnormalities in the UK Biobank study

Yajie Zhao et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the risks of male sex chromosome abnormalities, 47,XXY (Klinefelter syndrome [KS]) and 47,XYY, and their associations with adverse health outcomes. The results show that both KS and 47,XYY carry significantly higher risks for metabolic, vascular, and respiratory diseases, with some risks shared between the two conditions. Moreover, KS is associated with reproductive dysfunction, while XYY men appear to have normal reproductive function.
