The astroglial and stem cell functions of adult rat folliculostellate cells

Patrick A. Fletcher et al.

Summary: The mammalian pituitary gland consists of various types of cells, including folliculostellate cells (FSCs), pituicytes, vascular pericytes, endothelial cells, and stem cells. In this study, the researchers performed single-cell RNA sequencing and immunohistofluorescence analyses of pituitary cells from adult female rats. They found that FSCs express genes and proteins related to astrocytes, as well as some stem cell markers. These findings provide insight into the characteristics of FSCs and their potential roles in the pituitary gland.

Phosphoinositides as membrane organizers

York Posor et al.

Summary: Phosphoinositides, signaling lipids derived from phosphatidylinositol, play key roles in regulating membrane dynamics and impacting all aspects of cell physiology. They are involved in endocytic and exocytic traffic, autophagy, lysosome biology, and the non-vesicular exchange at membrane contact sites.

Discovery and Characterization of the Potent and Highly Selective 1,7-Naphthyridine-Based Inhibitors BAY-091 and BAY-297 of the Kinase PIP4K2A

Lars Wortmann et al.

Summary: PIP4K2A is a lipid kinase that may play a role in cancer development. Inhibition of PIP4K2A by BAY-091 and BAY-297 did not have the expected anti-proliferative effect in p53-deficient tumor cells, making them valuable tools for studying PIP4K2A signaling in cancer.

Membrane pools of phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate regulate KCNQ1/KCNE1 membrane expression

Summary: This study reveals the important role of PI4P in ion channel regulation, with decreased levels leading to impaired channel localization and function, which may have implications for the regulation of other PI4P-binding channels. The findings highlight the potential harmful effects of PI4K inhibition on cardiac electrophysiology and emphasize the critical role of the distal C-terminus of the channel in PI4P regulation of the KCNQ1/KCNE1 channel.
