Efficacy of combination therapy for childhood complicated focal IgA nephropathy

Yuya Aoto et al.

Summary: Combination therapy was significantly effective in patients with complicated focal IgAN. The long-term prognosis was good, and the duration of combination therapy for complicated focal IgAN can be decreased to reduce adverse events.

Intensive Systolic Blood Pressure Lowering and Kidney Disease Progression in IgA Nephropathy: A Cohort Study

Guizhen Yu et al.

Summary: This study found that in patients with IgAN, systolic blood pressure (SBP) was independently associated with kidney failure events. Lowering SBP from <140- <120 mm Hg was renoprotective.

Alamandine alleviates hypertension and renal damage via oxidative-stress attenuation in Dahl rats

Juexiao Gong et al.

Summary: The study found that alamandine can alleviate high-salt diet-induced hypertension and renal dysfunction by inhibiting the PKC/ROS signaling pathway, and suppressing apoptosis in renal tubular cells.

Intensity of Macrophage Infiltration in Glomeruli Predicts Response to Immunosuppressive Therapy in Patients with IgA Nephropathy

Di Xie et al.

Summary: The study found that higher levels of glomerular CD206(+) macrophage infiltration in IgAN patients were associated with a 40-fold increased probability of response to immunosuppression, while those with higher intensity of glomerular CD68(+) infiltrates had a 13-fold increase in probability of responding to immunosuppression. The intensity of glomerular CD206(+) and CD68(+) macrophage infiltration accurately predicted the response to immunosuppression, and combining these with the MEST-C score and clinical data at biopsy further improved the predictive ability.

KDIGO 2021 CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF GLOMERULAR DISEASES

Brad H. Rovin et al.

Summary: The KDIGO 2021 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Glomerular Diseases aims to assist clinicians caring for individuals with glomerular disease by providing actionable recommendations and valuable infographics. It also proposes research recommendations for areas where there are gaps in knowledge, targeting a broad audience of clinicians treating glomerular disease. The guideline development process followed an explicit evidence review and the treatment approaches are based on systematic reviews, evidence synthesis, and the GRADE approach.

Summary: This study demonstrates that half of IgA nephropathy patients achieved remission after 6 months of ACEi/ARB treatment. Patients who were older, had lower eGFR, and showed worse histological presentations were less likely to tolerate and respond to the treatment.

The Mesangial cell - the glomerular stromal cell

Shimrit Avraham et al.

Summary: Mesangial cells are essential stromal cells in maintaining kidney glomerular homeostasis and responding to injury. Other mesenchymal stromal cells play roles in tissue architecture, developmental processes, vascularization, and cell fate determination. These stromal cells can also regulate a variety of processes through crosstalk with neighboring cells and matrix remodeling, potentially impacting immunity, inflammation, regeneration, and fibrosis. Insights into the molecular phenotype of kidney mesangial cells provide a better understanding of kidney disease pathogenesis and the development of new therapies for chronic kidney disease.
