Effects of a 10-Strain Oral Probiotic on Parameters of Vaginal Health and Microbial Community: A Pilot Clinical Study

Summary: This study investigated the clinical effects of a 10-strain probiotic on vaginal health parameters in women with intermediate NS or elevated vaginal pH. The results showed that the probiotic significantly reduced vaginal pH, but had no significant impact on NS. In addition, the probiotic was well tolerated.

Vaginal microbiome following orally administered probiotic

Summary: In this study, the vaginal microbiomes of 16 healthy Danish women were analyzed using shotgun metagenomics. The results showed that orally consumed lactobacilli had no detectable impact on the composition or functional potential of the vaginal microbiota. Most of the women exhibited only minor changes in the vaginal microbiome during probiotic treatment. Future studies could benefit from increased participant numbers and the use of different lactobacillus species known to colonize the vagina.
