Analysis on lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles of IGF3-induced ovarian maturation in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus)

Yaorong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, lncRNAs and mRNAs involved in IGF3-induced ovarian maturation were evaluated in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus). The results demonstrate that lncRNAs might be involved in the reproductive processes in S. argus.

Neuropeptide Y in Spotted Scat (Scatophagus Argus), Characterization and Functional Analysis towards Feed Intake Regulation

Daniel Assan et al.

Summary: This study cloned and identified the cDNA sequence of neuropeptide Y (Npy) in spotted scat and found that it is expressed in all tissues, especially in the brain. The research revealed that Npy promotes growth in spotted scat by increasing food intake and interacts with other appetite-regulating peptides. This is significant for the aquaculture industry of the spotted scat.

Comparative Physiological and Transcriptomic Profiling Offers Insight into the Sexual Dimorphism of Hepatic Metabolism in Size-Dimorphic Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus)

Huapu Chen et al.

Summary: The spotted scat exhibits a typical sexual size dimorphism, and the liver plays a key role in regulating fish growth. Females show higher activities of certain enzymes related to digestion and metabolism, while males exhibit higher activities of hepatic lipase and antioxidant enzymes. Transcriptome analysis reveals differentially expressed genes and pathways associated with metabolic processes, with male liver showing more active mitochondrial energy metabolism. This sexually dimorphic metabolism in the liver may partially explain the female-biased growth dimorphism in spotted scat.

Igf3: a novel player in fish reproduction

Jianzhen Li et al.

Summary: Fish reproduction is tightly controlled by gonadotropin signaling, with recent studies identifying Igf3 as a key factor in this regulation. Igf3 is highly expressed in the gonads of teleost fish and mediates the action of gonadotropin through the Igf type 1 receptor, influencing various aspects of oogenesis and spermatogenesis. This new insight into Igf3 provides valuable information for understanding the molecular mechanism of fish reproduction and highlights the importance of the Igf system in mediating gonadotropin signaling on animal reproduction.

Identification and ovarian developmental regulation of Insulin-like growth factor 3 in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus)

Zhiyuan Li et al.

Summary: Insulin-like growth factor 3 (IGF3) plays a crucial role in the ovarian development and maturation of the spotted scat (Scatophagus argus), with its mRNA expression increasing as the ovary develops and peaking at stage IV near maturation. Recombinant S. argus IGF3 significantly promotes the expression of key genes for ovarian development and maturation, as well as beta-catenin signaling-sensitive genes.

A Chromosome-Level Genome Assembly of the Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus)

Yuanqing Huang et al.

Summary: The study constructed the first chromosome-level genome of the spotted scat, revealing a genome size of 572.42 Mb with high assembly quality. A total of 24,256 protein-coding genes were predicted, with 96.30% of them functionally annotated. Evolutionary analysis showed a distant divergence time between the spotted scat and Japanese puffer, and comparative genomic analysis identified numerous unique and expanded gene families.
