A Pyroptosis-Related Gene Panel for Predicting the Prognosis and Immune Microenvironment of Cervical Cancer

Haoran Hu et al.

Summary: This study identified pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) with diagnostic significance in cervical cancer (CC) and screened out three differentially expressed genes associated with prognosis. A gene panel was constructed based on these genes, and patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups. It was found that the high-risk group had a significantly lower survival rate. Functional enrichment analysis showed that these genes were primarily involved in immune response and inflammatory cell chemotaxis.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Molecular pathology of urothelial carcinoma

Antonio Lopez-Beltran et al.

Summary: The current era of personalized oncology has seen significant efforts to integrate clinical, pathological, and molecular classifications. The rich knowledge on the molecular basis of bladder cancer has led to a novel approach incorporating molecularly generated data in clinical practice. Translational research has provided insights into the early events in the development of urothelial carcinoma, showing that mutations in certain genes drive cells to colonize larger regions of the urothelium and trigger malignant transformation.

Identification of the Functions and Prognostic Values of RNA Binding Proteins in Bladder Cancer

Yue Wu et al.

Summary: Post-transcriptional regulation by RNA binding proteins is crucial in gene regulation, especially in tumors such as bladder cancer. In this study, we identified 12 RBPs that impact patient prognosis and constructed a risk score model, finding that patients in the high-risk group had poorer overall survival. A nomogram based on the risk score and clinical variables showed better predictive performance, contributing to a better understanding of BC pathogenesis and potentially improving clinical treatment and patient prognosis.
