Glioma progression is shaped by genetic evolution and microenvironment interactions

Frederick S. Varn et al.

Summary: This study analyzed RNA and DNA sequencing data from tumor pairs of patients with IDH-wild-type and IDH-mutant glioma, and identified the factors driving therapy resistance and recurrence. The results showed that IDH status, histological features, somatic alterations, and microenvironment interactions play important roles in glioma recurrence. Furthermore, specific cellular and genetic changes were associated with tumor growth, invasion, and neuronal interactions, providing potential targets for altering disease progression.

Effectiveness of Lomustine Combined With Bevacizumab in Glioblastoma: A Meta-Analysis

Xing Ren et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the combination therapy of lomustine and bevacizumab can effectively improve overall survival, progression-free survival, and 6-month progression-free survival in patients with glioblastoma. Further clinical trials are needed to confirm these encouraging results.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Fc gamma RIIB is a T cell checkpoint in antitumor immunity

Clara R. Farley et al.

Summary: In the context of cancer, the inhibitory Fc receptor FcγRIIB is upregulated on CD8(+) T cells in melanoma patients, and genetic deficiency of Fcgr2b enhances anti-tumor responses and reduces tumor burden. These findings suggest a cell-intrinsic role for FcγRIIB in suppressing tumor-infiltrating CD8(+) T cells.

Single-cell profiling of myeloid cells in glioblastoma across species and disease stage reveals macrophage competition and specialization

Ana Rita Pombo Antunes et al.

Summary: By utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing and CITE-seq, this study reveals the complexity of the immune landscape in glioblastomas, including conserved populations of dendritic cells and macrophages. The results indicate that microglia-derived tumor-associated macrophages dominate in newly diagnosed tumors, but are replaced by monocyte-derived TAMs in recurrences.

Prognostic significance of FCGR2B expression for the response of DLBCL patients to rituximab or obinutuzumab treatment

Malgorzata Nowicka et al.

Summary: The study suggests that higher FCGR2B expression in DLBCL patients can reduce drug efficacy and is associated with shorter progression-free survival in R-CHOP treatment. High FCGR2B expression may promote responsiveness to R-CHOP treatment compared to G-CHOP treatment.
