Patients' perspectives of a pharmacist-provided clinical pharmacogenomics service

James L. Martin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the perspectives and experiences of patients who participated in a pharmacist-provided clinical pharmacogenomics (PGx) service. The results indicate the heterogeneity of patient PGx experiences and preferences, and support the role of pharmacists as appropriate providers of PGx services. Additionally, considerations regarding the use of PGx results in routine healthcare were identified. It is important to consider patient-specific perspectives when providing clinical PGx services in order to optimize patient experiences.

Summary: Psychiatric patients show interest in PGx testing despite low familiarity, with a preference for seeking information being a significant predictor of testing interest. This study provides insights into psychiatric patients' perspectives on PGx testing and highlights the importance of including them in future research on the topic.

Sociodemographic factors and beliefs about medicines in the uptake of pharmacogenomic testing in older adults

Association between Neighborhood Social Deprivation and Stage at Diagnosis among Breast Cancer Patients in South Carolina

Oluwole Adeyemi Babatunde et al.

Summary: Through examining the association between neighborhood social deprivation and individual-level characteristics, it was found that higher SDI, African American race, and being unmarried were associated with distant-stage breast cancer diagnosis in this study. Additionally, higher tumor grade, younger age, and more recent year of diagnosis were also linked to distant-stage diagnosis. The SDI can be utilized as a proxy for neighborhood context in identifying geographic areas for prioritized cancer prevention and control efforts in population-based studies.

Patients with geographic barriers to health care access are prescribed a higher proportion of drugs with pharmacogenetic testing guidelines

Rachel Dalton et al.

Summary: This study found that poor geographic access is associated with fewer prescriber encounters, fewer total unique drugs, and fewer PGx guideline drugs in medically underserved populations. However, in low-access areas, patients were prescribed a greater proportion of PGx guideline drugs.

Underrepresented patient views and perceptions of personalized medication treatment through pharmacogenomics

Loren Saulsberry et al.

Summary: Black patients have less confidence in personalized treatment decisions made by their providers and overwhelmingly want their genetic information to play a larger role in clinical care. White patients are more likely to discuss the impact of personal/genetic makeup on medication response with providers, while Black patients initiate these discussions much less frequently. Opportunities exist for enhanced communication with underrepresented patients to ensure equitable benefits from pharmacogenomically guided medication treatment.
