A scoping review of behavior change techniques used to promote physical activity among women in midlife

Danielle Arigo et al.

Summary: This scoping review evaluates the design and implementation of physical activity interventions for women in midlife and finds limited efficacy and applicability of existing interventions. The use of theoretical models and behavior change techniques varied across interventions, and specific implementation details were lacking. Inclusion criteria, such as age range and starting activity level, were inconsistent, and some interventions focused on marginalized populations. A comprehensive synthesis of this information is helpful for improving the design and potential utility of physical activity interventions for women in midlife.

Summary: Many women experience a variety of symptoms during menopause, including psychosocial symptoms such as loss of confidence, body image issues, increased stress, and decreased attention, while digital health technologies provide an important means of obtaining information. Mental health practitioners can support older women in occupational settings to manage menopausal symptoms through the use of digital health strategies.

Results of a Culturally Tailored Smartphone-Delivered Physical Activity Intervention Among Midlife African American Women: Feasibility Trial

Rodney P. Joseph et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the acceptability and feasibility of a culturally tailored, smartphone-delivered PA intervention among midlife African American women. The results showed that participants increased moderate-to-vigorous PA and reported improvements in theoretical mediators. Nearly all participants indicated that they would recommend the intervention to a friend, with suggestions for improving the provision of social support within the intervention.

Dietary intake and menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal women: a systematic review

P. R. E. S. Noll et al.

Summary: This study aimed to provide a systematic review of the literature on the association between dietary intake and menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal women. Studies showed that higher consumption of vegetables, whole grains, and unprocessed foods is associated with lower intensity of psychological symptoms, sleep disorders, and vasomotor, urogenital, and somatic symptoms. On the other hand, high consumption of processed foods, saturated fats, and sugars is associated with increased intensity of menopausal symptoms.
