Yu Feng et al.

Summary: Researchers have constructed a chainmail catalyst with outstanding stability, consisting of highly graphitic layers wrapped uniform-size Co nanoparticles. The electron transfer from the inner Co nanoparticles to the external graphitic layers promotes the adsorption process of oxygen molecules and enhances the oxygen reduction reaction kinetics. The prepared catalyst demonstrates excellent activity and stability, providing new ideas for the design of nanoconfined catalysts.

Mechanistic insights into the electrochemical Li/Na/K-ion storage for aqueous bismuth anode

Tingting Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, the interaction mechanism between bismuth (Bi) and alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+ and K+) in aqueous alkali-metal ion batteries (ARABs) was investigated using various experimental and theoretical methods. It was found that Bi exhibited high specific capacity for Na+ and K+ storage, but lower capacity for Li+ storage. The irreversibility of Li+ dealloying from Bi matrix due to large adsorption energy resulted in poor rate performance and cycling stability. The large volume expansion caused by the largest radius of K+ contributed to the poor cycling stability for K+ storage. Bi showed superior performance for Na+ storage due to the appropriate interaction strength between Bi and Na+.

MXene-Based Quantum Dots Optimize Hydrogen Production via Spontaneous Evolution of Cl- to O-Terminated Surface Groups

Yuhua Liu et al.

Summary: MXene quantum dots (MQDs) offer wide applications due to their abundant surface chemistry, tunable energy-level structure, and unique properties. However, controlling the types of surface groups and tuning the energy-level structure remains a challenge. In this study, we demonstrated the spontaneous evolution of surface groups in Ti2CTx MQDs, resulting in a low Gibbs free energy in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Our findings also showed excellent operational stability in HER.

Lithiation/Delithiation Properties of Lithium Silicide Electrodes in Ionic-Liquid Electrolytes

Yasuhiro Domi et al.

Summary: The study found that immersing the Li1.00Si electrode in an ionic liquid electrolyte causes part of the Li to desorb and transition to Si, while adding vinylene carbonate (VC) to the electrolyte can suppress this phase transition. Additionally, the desorbed Li was mainly used for the formation of a surface film, rather than eluting into the electrolyte from Li1.00Si.
