Slope-Shift Keying LoRa-Based Modulation

Muhammad Hanif et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new modulation scheme called SSK-LoRa by adding a set of new orthonormal basis functions to the existing LoRa system to increase achievable data rate. Low-complexity optimum coherent and noncoherent detection algorithms are developed for SSK-LoRa modulation, with closed-form analytical and tight approximations for error probabilities in Rayleigh fading environment. The SSK-LoRa scheme is shown to outperform state-of-the-art LoRa-based modulation schemes.

Frequency-Shift Chirp Spread Spectrum Communications With Index Modulation

Muhammad Hanif et al.

Summary: This article introduces a novel frequency-shift chirp spread spectrum (FSCSS) system with index modulation (IM), which can achieve much higher data rates than the conventional system. Optimal detection algorithms, both coherently and noncoherently, are presented for the proposed system, along with a low-complexity noncoherent detection algorithm to reduce computational complexity. The results show that the proposed system, while enabling much higher data rates, enjoys similar bit-error performance as that of the conventional FSCSS system.

On the Advantage of Coherent LoRa Detection in the Presence of Interference

Orion Afisiadis et al.

Summary: The coherent detection of LoRa signals outperforms noncoherent detection in interference scenarios, providing larger gains. Theoretical derivations and simulation experiments demonstrate that coherent detection can also easily achieve accurate error rate values even under negative signal-to-interference ratio conditions.
