Surfaxin attenuates PM2.5-induced airway inflammation via restoring surfactant proteins in rats exposed to cigarette smoke

Xian Wen Sun et al.

Summary: Epidemiologic studies have shown that PM2.5 exacerbates chronic airway inflammation and Surfaxin can protect the alveolar epithelium from PM2.5 in airway inflammation through increasing SPs levels.

Mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalate drives progression of PINK1-parkin-mediated mitophagy via increasing mitochondrial ROS to exacerbate cytotoxicity

Jian Xu et al.

Summary: MEHP exacerbates cytotoxicity by amplifying the PINK1-Parkin-mediated mitophagy pathway, leading to increased mitochondrial damage and robust mitophagy. Co-treatment with N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) counteracted the effects of MEHP-CCCP, suggesting that mitochondrial ROS played a vital role in this process. The findings provide insights into the potential roles of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in human diseases such as Parkinson's disease.

The mitochondria-targeted antioxidant MitoQ attenuated PM2.5-induced vascular fibrosis via regulating mitophagy

Ruihong Ning et al.

Summary: MitoQ treatment can partly alleviate vascular damage caused by PM2.5 exposure by improving mitochondrial quality control, reducing mitochondrial oxidative stress, promoting mitophagy regulated by PINK1 and Parkin functions. Additionally, MitoQ can reverse mitochondrial dysfunction and fragmentation induced by PM2.5.
