Impact of Urban Form on CO2 Emissions under Different Socioeconomic Factors: Evidence from 132 Small and Medium-Sized Cities in China

Ran Guo et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between urban form and CO2 emissions in small and medium-sized cities in the Yangtze River Delta in China. It considers the influence of socioeconomic factors such as industrial structure, population density, and economic development level. The results show that these socioeconomic factors have a significant impact on the relationship between urban form and per capita CO2 emissions. Compactness has a positive effect on CO2 emissions, increasing with the proportion of the tertiary industry, population density, and GDP per capita. Complexity only has an effect on CO2 emissions with an increase in population density. These findings can guide decision-makers in formulating plans for CO2 emission control.

Impacts of global change on peak vegetation growth and its timing in terrestrial ecosystems of the continental US

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: Precipitation has the greatest impact on maximum vegetation growth, while temperature contributes the most to changes in peak of growing season. The effects of cloud cover vary depending on moisture regime, with more cloud cover delaying peak growth in wetter regions but advancing it in dry areas.

Evaluation of the CALPUFF model performance for the estimation of the urban ecosystem CO2 flux

Yaroslav Bezyk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of land conversion on soil CO2 fluxes in temperate re-established grasslands within an anthropogenic landform in a Forest Botanical Garden. The results of the CALPUFF model simulations showed promising agreement with tracer measurements of biogenic CO2, but tended to underestimate real concentration levels. The study also emphasized the sensitivity of the CALPUFF model's performance in simulating CO2 concentrations within urban ecosystems to various meteorological and environmental factors.

Vegetation Cover Change and Its Attribution in China from 2001 to 2018

Baohui Mu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the vegetation cover change trends in China from 2001 to 2018 and found that CO2, climate-related factors, and land cover change played significant roles in driving these changes. CO2 was identified as the primary driving factor for vegetation cover changes, indicating its importance in vegetation growth research.

The Benefits and Limits of Urban Tree Planting for Environmental and Human Health

Summary: Research shows that urban trees provide benefits such as local cooling, stormwater absorption, and health benefits for residents, but have limited potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Due to space constraints, urban trees are more promising for climate and pollution adaptation strategies rather than mitigation strategies.

The multi-objective spatial optimization of urban land use based on low-carbon city planning

Gengzhe Wang et al.

Summary: This study implemented spatial optimization in Eindhoven, Netherlands, classified land use patterns into six categories, and found that vegetation geographic features are crucial factors affecting carbon emissions. Through a multi-objective spatial optimization model, carbon emissions were successfully reduced, and the impact of different land use categories on carbon emissions was analyzed.
