Experiences of breast cancer survivors with lymphedema self-management: a systematic review of qualitative studies

Xin Fu et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed qualitative literature on the experiences of breast cancer survivors with lymphedema self-management. The findings revealed that breast cancer survivors face challenges in self-management and require timely education and support. Timely self-management education and access to treatment resources are important for cancer survivors to prevent and manage lymphedema.

Lymphaticovenular Anastomosis for Advanced-Stage Peripheral Lymphedema: Expanding Indication and Introducing the Hand/Foot Sign

Giuseppe Visconti et al.

Summary: Identifying functioning lymphatic vessels preoperatively through ultrasound can improve the efficacy of lymphaticovenular anastomosis. The hand/foot sign in advanced-stage lymphedema patients can serve as a simple clinical indicator for determining the presence of functional lymphatic channels.

Combined deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap with vascularized groin lymph node transplant for treatment of breast cancer-related lymphedema

Mark Schaverien et al.

Summary: This article discusses the effectiveness of modern surgical techniques in treating lymphedema, as well as the combination of breast reconstruction surgery to address upper extremity lymphedema in post-mastectomy breast cancer patients. These methods can significantly improve patient quality of life and reduce burdens.

Lymph-interpositional-flap transfer (LIFT) based on lymph-axiality concept: Simultaneous soft tissue and lymphatic reconstruction without lymph node transfer or lymphatic anastomosis

Takumi Yamamoto et al.

Summary: The results of the study showed that in patients undergoing lymph interpositional flap transfer (LIFT), the lymph flow restoration rate was significantly higher than the conventional flap transfer (control group), while the lymphedema development rate was significantly lower than the control group. Further analysis indicated that patients in the LIFT group who were able to approximate the lymph vessel stumps had higher rates of LFR and lower rates of LED.

Surgical Treatment of Lymphedema: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Controlled Trials. Results of a Consensus Conference

David W. Chang et al.

Summary: The consensus conference conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on surgical treatment and prevention of upper and lower extremity lymphedema, finding evidence to support the effectiveness of lymphovenous anastomosis and vascular lymph node transplantation in reducing severity. However, there is no consensus on which procedure is more effective. Prophylactic lymphovenous bypass may reduce the incidence of lymphedema, and debulking procedures like liposuction are effective in addressing nonfluid components of lymphedema.
