A review on solar greenhouse dryer: Design, thermal modelling, energy, economic and environmental aspects

G. Srinivasan et al.

Summary: This article extensively reviews the design, thermal modelling approaches, and economic, energy and environmental aspects of solar greenhouse dryers for drying various agricultural products. It also discusses the selection and usage of solar photovoltaic panels and thermal energy storage units for achieving continuous and grid-independent drying in detail. The performances of different configurations/shapes of the greenhouse dryers in terms of energy requirements are compared, and reports on thermodynamic and thermal modelling studies as well as drying kinetics studies are summarized.

Development of mathematical model for drying of crops under passive greenhouse solar dryer

Asim Ahmad et al.

Summary: In the present study, a new model for drying tomato flakes and potato chips under a greenhouse dryer operating under passive mode was developed and found to have the best curve fitting ability and predictive performance compared to other models. The proposed model demonstrated the highest coefficient of determination and lowest root mean square error and chi square, indicating its superiority in moisture ratio prediction.
