Association Between Intravenous Magnesium Therapy in the Emergency Department and Subsequent Hospitalization Among Pediatric Patients With Refractory Acute Asthma Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

Suzanne Schuh et al.

Summary: Despite guidelines recommending IV magnesium sulfate for refractory pediatric asthma, the number of asthma-related hospitalizations has remained stable. This study found that administration of IV magnesium therapy in the ED was independently associated with subsequent hospitalization among pediatric patients with refractory acute asthma, even in children with mild asthma at ED disposition.
